Known as “The Lost Horizon in the South” Camotes Island is part of the province of Cebu. Its unspoiled beauty is what makes it appealing to the tourists from all over the world. According to local legends, when the Spanish first arrive in this place, they saw some natives digging potatoes and they ask them the name of the place. The natives thought that the Spaniards ask them what they are digging thus they replied “Camotes” or sweet potatoes. Thus the island got its name.

The island is made up of four towns namely Poro, Pilar, Tudela and San Francisco. The island is situated east of Cebu mainland that is between Leyte and Cebu. This island is a small piece of paradise which is blessed with great underwater beauty, magnificent white sand beaches, caves and lakes; rich history and culture; and most of all warm loving people.

How to Get to Camotes Islands

Cebu is an ideal place for business and vacation venue. They have direct international flights from countries in Asia like Hongkong, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and more. They also have direct domestic flight to and from different cities in the Philippines. From Manila Air Asia, Cebu Pacific and Philair Express offer a great number of daily flights to Cebu International Airport in Mactan Island.

From Cebu City, you can take a bus or a passenger jeepney (multicab) going to Danao. This usually takes one hour. At Danao port you can ride a ferry to the island. At Consuelo port in San Francisco, there are motorbikes and multicabs which can take you to the hotel or resort of your choice. Other alternative route is through Mandaue City Ouano wharf and from Cebu City Pier 2. There are also chartered flights from Cebu City to the island which is provided by Mactan-based Company.

  • Island Tour: You can go on an Island tour and see Lake Danao, Baywalk, Busay Waterfalls, Guadalupe Cave, Alta Vista, Kalbaryo, St. Joseph Parish, Built Cave in Tudela, and Buho Rock.

The best time to go to Camotes Islands is during summer and dry season. It is also worth to know things e.g. make sure you bring some cash with there is only one ATM machine in Poro, and mobile signal is weak in some areas like Santiago and southern part of San Francisco. In the past there were power interruption everyday from 6 PM to 7 PM, actually power outages are rare.
