El Nido Palawan: Great Place to Relax

Foreigners are not often aware that El Nido is a coastal town that is located in Palawan province. El Nido Palawan actually has a lot of islands. It has 45 islands. Some are so small that they are not referred to as islands but as islets.

For locals, the place has always been popular. It is blessed with very beautiful sceneries that most people do not realize that they are in the Philippines. There are cliffs there that are similar to other cliffs in nearby Asian countries.

There are also clear beaches and beautiful mountains surrounding the place. Some people have exclaimed that they truly feel that they are in paradise while they stayed there.

The people in El Nido used to live by fishing and harvesting swift nests but ever since the place got discovered by other people, more opportunities rose for the locals in the area. Some are knowledgeable about scuba diving, kayaking and other water activities.

What they do is they offer these services to the foreigners or even other locals to earn money.

How do you get to El Nido Palawan

By Plane

A lot of people arrive by plane. SeaAir has flights from time to time while Island Transvoyager Inc. has choppers that go to El Nido as well.

It is obvious from the description of the planes that can go to the airport that it can only accommodate small planes. This is the reason why other people opt to go to Puerto Princesa which is located in Palawan as well.

It does not help much that SeaAir somehow has a bad reputation among tourists because of its bad service and accommodations. There are even times when flights would be cancelled and even though they promise that the money will be returned, this has not happened. ITI is more reliable only it is much smaller.

It is also possible to go to the place by flying through another airline. However, first you take a flight to Puerto Princesa and then in the next step travel to El Nido. Upon arrival at the Puerto Princesa Airport, you can catch a bus or a van going to El Nido.

If you are not sure how you are going to go from Puerto Princesa to El Nido, you might want to try out Fortwally shuttle service. They travel from Puerto Princesa to there every day. Do remember that the travel from Puerto Princesa might not be that comfortable since you have to sit for about 5 hours. The road is not paved yet and it might get a bit bumpy on most parts. The fare for each person is also a bit pricey. It costs about 600 – 700 pesos each. While you can also ride a tricycle going there for a smaller fee, riding a van is more comfortable. Plus it can go around all the guest houses so you can go to your hotel or inn immediately.

By Bus

There are only 2 bus lines that go from Puerto Princesa to El Nido everyday. Time travel can last from 6 to 8 hours. It only has two stop overs along the way. The fare is much lower though it costs about 350 PhP. Do remember though that vans are still more comfortable since there are a lot of things packed in buses. Your things might get dirty especially if they will be placed on the roof area of the bus. There might also be some delays when the things get tangled.

What to Visit in El Nido Palawan

If you think getting to El Nido might be too much of a hassle, you might just change your mind the moment you see the breathtaking views that this place has to offer. There is so much to see there. The water is clear and aqua. You will be able to see the bottom immediately.


There are a lot of things that will catch your attention there. There are also springs and waterfalls that you might be able to see if you take the boat ride that will help you explore the island.

Do remember though that boat rides are unavailable when the weather is not so good. On good days it can take about 6-12 people and can explore about 5 islands. If you would like to do more, it would be best to buy package deals that will pack in a lot of good activities that will keep you busy all throughout your stay.

What to Do in El Nido Palawan

If boat riding and swimming is not really for you, there are still other things that you can do. A lot of people visit the place to embark on different walking adventures. Some people do rock climbing and generally walk to different places. For those who still like swimming though, there are a lot of options available for you. Some tourist love fishing since a lot of fishes are available in the area. Some have catched big fishes when they tried fishing in El Nido.


You will not go hungry. There are a lot of restaurants and small eating places scattered among the area. The variety of foods might range from Filipino, American to European. The dishes that the locals can offer you are good enough. You might even enjoy some Filipino dishes. Another good advantage about the eating houses there is that the view is amazing. You can eat peacefully while admiring the amazing view.


Most accommodations in El Nido, hotels, guesthouses and apartments you find near the beach areas. Do remember that rooms might be limited during peak seasons like Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. During off peak season, you will not have a problem looking for the place you would like to stay in for the next few days. Coping While in the Area

The more expensive hotels and inns though have electricity 24 hours. Also, there are some hotels that have their own generators so you do not have to worry about that.

You should remember to bring enough money when you stay in the place. El Nido doesn*t have any banks or ATMs. You should cash out in Puerto Princesa before travelling to El Nido. There are some establishments that accept credit cards, you may be able to save your cash by doing that if you want to.


El Nido offers you enough internet shops to go online. You can look for those and check your mails up to a certain time. Some hotels would offer free Wi-Fi but this is not yet too common in the area.
